Android Developer
Job summary
Andoria AI is building a next-generation consumer mobile product that brings people together through rich content creation, real-time engagement, and verified digital identities. Our Android app is built with Jetpack Compose and Kotlin, backed by a modern design system, and powered by a robust backend API — and we're just getting started.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Build and ship features end-to-end across our Android application — from content feeds and creation flows to notifications, search, and profile management.
- Own feature modules within our Jetpack Compose architecture, spanning authentication, content, home, profile, identity verification, search, notifications, and activity.
- Design and extend data models using Kotlin data classes and sealed types, maintaining clean serialization/deserialization with our RESTful backend API.
- Implement and maintain the networking layer — working with Retrofit/OkHttp, JWT auth interceptors, automatic token refresh, multipart file uploads, and structured error handling.
- Build rich, interactive UIs using Jetpack Compose, applying our comprehensive design system (typography scale, colour palettes, spacing tokens, light/dark theme support).
- Integrate third-party SDKs including Google Sign-In (Credential Manager), and identity verification providers for face/liveness detection.
- Implement secure auth flows — email/phone registration, OTP verification, OAuth (Google), session persistence with EncryptedSharedPreferences, and token lifecycle management.
- Work with media — handle image and video uploads, CameraX integration for identity verification, and content moderation workflows.
- Collaborate on CI/CD — our pipeline uses Azure DevOps with automated builds and Play Store distribution; you'll help maintain build reliability and release cadence.
- Write clean, maintainable Kotlin following established patterns: MVVM/MVI architecture, ViewModel for state management, Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for asynchronous and reactive operations.
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of professional Android development experience shipping apps in Kotlin.
- Strong Jetpack Compose proficiency — declarative layouts, navigation, custom components, bottom sheets, and state management (remember, collectAsStateWithLifecycle, State, MutableState).
- Solid understanding of Kotlin Coroutines — suspend functions, CoroutineScope, viewModelScope, structured concurrency, and error handling with SupervisorJob.
- Experience with Kotlin Flow — StateFlow, SharedFlow, MutableStateFlow for reactive state propagation across ViewModels and repositories.
- Experience with RESTful API integration — Retrofit, OkHttp interceptors, Moshi/Kotlinx Serialisation for JSON parsing, multipart uploads, and error handling.
- Authentication implementation experience — OAuth flows (Google Sign-In / Credential Manager), JWT token management, refresh token rotation, and secure session storage (EncryptedSharedPreferences / Android Keystore).
- Familiarity with Android architecture patterns — MVVM or MVI, Repository pattern, dependency injection with Hilt/Dagger.
- Understanding of Android design systems — working within a defined set of typography, colour, and spacing tokens using Material 3 and custom Compose themes; supporting light and dark mode.
- Experience with Gradle build configuration — build variants, product flavours, BuildConfig fields, and signing configurations.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with identity verification / KYC SDKs (e.g., QoreID, Jumio, Onfido) and camera-based liveness detection.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps Pipelines for Android CI/CD (assembling APK/AAB, signing, Play Store deployment).
- Experience with cursor-based pagination using Paging 3, infinite scroll, and feed architectures.
- Knowledge of poll/voting mechanics and real-time content interaction patterns.
- Contributions to modular Android architectures — multi-module Gradle projects, feature modules, and clean separation of concerns.
- Experience with media handling — CameraX, ActivityResultContracts for photo/video capture, compression, and upload progress tracking.
- Familiarity with Room for local caching and offline support.
What We Offer:
- Opportunity to shape a greenfield consumer product from the ground up.
- Ownership of entire feature areas in a modern, pure-Compose codebase.
- Collaborative, small-team environment where your contributions are visible and impactful.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Flexible working arrangements.
