Accountant/Financial Controller
Job summary
The firm is a Lagos-based premium real estate development company delivering distinctive residential projects across the city's high-demand corridors. As we scale our operations and project portfolio, we are building strong internal systems, and we are seeking an experienced finance professional to establish and lead the company's accounts.

Responsibilities:
Systems & Process Design:
- Design, build, and implement a complete accounting system, structure, and process for the company from the ground up
- Establish internal financial controls, policies, and procedures that ensure accuracy, accountability, and smooth day-to-day operations
- Select, set up, and administer appropriate accounting software for the company's needs
- Continuously improve financial processes as the company scales
Accounting & Financial Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and complete books of account and the general ledger
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports — monthly, quarterly, and annual
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and cash position
- Oversee project-level accounting and cost tracking across the company's developments
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all financial transactions
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Develop company budgets based on historical trends, project pipelines, and management objectives
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor performance against budget, flagging variances
- Provide financial modelling and analysis to support project and investment decisions
Financial Advisory & Control:
- Advise management on the efficient and prudent utilization of the company's financial resources
- Monitor financial performance and provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decisions
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and other financial stakeholders
Compliance & Statutory Obligations:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax obligations — VAT, PAYE, CIT, WHT — and statutory filings
- Liaise with tax authorities (FIRS, LIRS) and external auditors as required
- Keep the company compliant with applicable financial regulations and reporting standards
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, with demonstrated exposure to financial control or management accounting
- Proven ability to set up accounting systems and processes from scratch, not only to maintain existing ones
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (compulsory)
- Proficiency in accounting software: Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms
- Solid experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Sound knowledge of Nigerian tax law and statutory compliance (FIRS, LIRS, PAYE, VAT, CIT, WHT)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver with minimal supervision
- Must reside in or within a comfortable commute of Magodo, Lagos
- A professional accounting qualification — ICAN or ACCA (chartered status is a strong advantage)
- Experience in the real estate, construction, or property development sector
- Experience with project-based accounting and joint venture or investor reporting
- Familiarity with financial modelling for development projects
- Working familiarity with AI and modern productivity tools
