Job summary

Job Summary The accountant is responsible for managing the financial records of the supermarket, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, cash control, inventory reconciliation, statutory compliance, payroll support, and preparation of financial reports to support management decision-making.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate books of accounts (sales, purchases, expenses, payables, receivables.
  • Post daily transactions into the accounting system.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial records


Cash & Sales Control:

  • Reconcile daily sales (cash, POS, transfers) with system reports
  • Monitor cash handling procedures and investigate discrepancies
  • Conduct periodic cash counts


Bank & Reconciliation:

  • Prepare bank reconciliations regularly
  • Monitor inflows and outflows to ensure proper cash flow management


Inventory & Cost Control:

  • Work with the Inventory Officer to reconcile stock records
  • Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS)
  • Investigate stock variances and support loss-control processes


Payroll & Statutory Compliance:

  • Support payroll preparation and salary processing
  • Ensure statutory deductions (e.g., PAYE, pension) are properly computed and remitted
  • Prepare necessary financial reports for tax purposes


Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare a monthly management account
  • Provide financial analysis to support pricing and profitability decisions
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting


Internal Control & Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with internal financial control procedures
  • Support internal or external audit processes


Requirements:

  • Minimum of HND / BSc in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, ANAN) is an advantage
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience (retail experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and accounting software
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Financial accuracy and attention to detail
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Strong organizational ability
  • Integrity and accountability
  • Problem-solving skills
