Job summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant. Reporting directly to the MD/CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, financial controls, project accounting, and general accounting operations. Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Prepare management accounts and financial statements.
- Monitor cash flow and provide regular financial updates to management.
- Reconcile bank statements and company accounts.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and investigate budget variances.
- Track project costs and ensure proper allocation of expenses.
- Provide recommendations for cost optimization and financial efficiency.
Taxation & Compliance:
- Prepare and file statutory tax returns in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations.
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory authorities when required.
- Support internal and external audit processes.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Review and process invoices, vendor payments, and reimbursements.
- Maintain accurate records of debtors and creditors.
Project Accounting & Financial Analysis:
- Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
- Prepare project-specific financial reports and analyses.
- Support project managers with financial planning, cost tracking, and budget monitoring.
- Ensure accurate documentation of project-related financial transactions.
- Track project profitability and provide financial insights to management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant accounting experience, preferably within project-based organizations, engineering, construction, infrastructure, renewable energy, or related sectors.
- Mandatory experience in project accounting, project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- ACA, ACCA, ICAN, or other relevant accounting certifications will be an added advantage.
- A Master's Degree or relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, taxation, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using accounting software and financial management systems.
- Knowledge of international trade and trade banking operations will be an added advantage.
