Job summary
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance Team at Valjes Properties. The accountant will handle both standard accounting work and industry-specific financial tasks tied to property projects, construction, land acquisition, and sales.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions
- Record project costs, contractor payments, client’s payments, payroll, and supplier invoices
- Track revenue from property sales, leases, or rentals
- Reconcile bank accounts and financial statements
Project Cost Accounting:
- Monitor construction and development costs for each project
- Prepare cost reports and budget variance analyses
- Track: Land acquisition costs, Building materials, Labor expenses, Equipment and subcontractor costs
- Allocate indirect costs appropriately across projects
Budgeting and Financial Planning:
- Prepare annual budgets and project-specific budgets
- Forecast cash flow for ongoing developments
- Analyze project profitability and return on investment (ROI)
- Assist management with financial decision-makin
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Process payments to contractors, consultants, and vendors
- Follow up on customer payments, instalment plans, or mortgage-related receivables
- Manage client account statements and ageing reports
Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file taxes related to: Corporate income, VAT/sales tax, Property taxes, Withholding taxes
- Ensure compliance with local real estate and construction tax laws
- Coordinate with auditors and tax authorities
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare: Monthly management accounts, Profit and loss statements, Balance sheets, Cash flow statements
- Produce project performance reports for executives and investors
Payroll Administration:
- Process salaries, wages, bonuses, and statutory deductions
- Maintain employee payroll records
- Ensure compliance with labor and pension regulation
Audit and Internal Controls:
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Implement controls to prevent fraud and financial mismanagement
- Verify supporting documents for expenditures and contracts
Loan and Investor Management:
- Track construction loans and repayment schedules
- Prepare financial reports for banks and investors
- Monitor interest expenses and financing arrangements
Contract and Compliance Support:
- Review financial terms in construction contracts
- Ensure compliance with government regulations and reporting standards
- Support documentation for permits, licenses, and approvals
Inventory and Asset Management:
- Track real estate inventory (plots, units, buildings)
- Maintain fixed-asset registers for company equipment and properties
She will work closely with the following:
- Project managers
- Quantity surveyors
- Procurement teams
- Legal departments
- Sales and marketing teams
- External auditors and banks
Requirements:
- B.Sc. in Accounting
- Minimum of 4 years’ relevant accounting experience in real estate, construction, or infrastructure development.
- Fully qualified accountants, or at least successful completion of stage 2 or 3 of ICAN professional exam.
- The ideal candidate must be skilled in financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, tax computation and compliance, cost accounting, cash flow management, payroll administration, and financial analysis.
- The ideal candidate must possess strong attention to detail, integrity, and confidentiality, with excellent analytical thinking and communication skills.
- The preferred candidate should be female and reside on Lagos Island or within close proximity.
