Job summary

The Accounts Receivable Officer is responsible for managing all incoming revenues and customer billing activities. In the oil petrochemical business, this includes invoicing for sales, and services rendered, and other contractual deliverables. The role ensures timely collection of receivables, accurate revenue recognition, and maintenance of strong client relationships.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and issue accurate invoices to customers, off-takers, and joint venture partners based on sales contracts, lifting schedules, and service agreements.\
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables, ensuring collections are made within agreed credit terms.
  • Maintain an up-to-date customer ledger and perform regular reconciliation of debtor accounts.
  • Prepare monthly AR ageing reports and highlight overdue accounts to the Finance Manager.
  • Coordinate with the commercial/operations team to resolve billing disputes, credit notes, and contract variations.
  • Apply receipts accurately to customer accounts and reconcile bank deposits with customer remittances.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all revenue transactions in compliance with IFRS 15 revenue recognition standards.
  • Manage Letters of Credit (LC), Documentary Collections, and other trade finance instruments relevant to export transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation of revenue reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial statements.
  • Liaise with legal counsel on the recovery of long-outstanding or disputed debts when necessary.
  • Support external auditors with schedules, confirmations, and documentation of receivable balances.\
  • Track and report on DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) metrics and suggest improvements to the collections process.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the Accounting or Finance field.
  • Professional certification in view or completed (ICAN, ACCA) is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of accounts receivable experience, preferably in oil and gas, energy, or financial services.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas billing cycles, lifting schedules, and gas sales agreements is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (Tally, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
