The Account Officer is responsible for managing the financial operations of the school, ensuring accurate record-keeping, accountability and compliance with established financial policies and regulations.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily financial transactions, including receipts, payments, and bank deposits
  • Collect and properly record tuition fees, levies, and other school-related payments
  • Issue receipts and maintain accurate financial records and ledgers
  • Prepare periodic financial reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and termly)
  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and cash books regularly
  • Process staff salaries, allowances, and other payments as approved
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitor budget implementation
  • Track expenditures and ensure they align with approved budgets
  • Maintain proper documentation and filing of all financial records
  • Liaise with auditors, banks, and relevant financial institutions
  • Ensure compliance with school financial policies and regulatory standards
  • Support management with financial insights for decision-making
  • Handle confidential financial information with integrity and discretion


Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an added advantage
  • At least 2–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school or similar institution
  • Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
