Job summary
We are recruiting a local Chinese-English translator based in Lagos, Nigeria, to work on-site and report directly to the Chinese boss. The core responsibility of this role is to accompany the Chinese boss and bridge language and cultural gaps between the Chinese team and local Nigerian employees, suppliers, and clients, ensuring accurate information transmission and the successful completion of tasks.

Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Daily communication: Interpret and translate (oral and written) between the China-based lead and local Nigerian staff, suppliers, and clients to keep both sides aligned.
- Meetings & business interpretation: Accompany the lead on business visits, site/engineering inspections, supplier negotiations, and contract discussions, providing on-site interpretation.
- Document translation: Translate contracts, purchase orders, emails, meeting minutes, and policy notices between Chinese and English with accurate terminology and intent.
- Directive relay & follow-up: Translate and organize Chinese directives for the local team, then track execution feedback and report back in a closed loop.
- Handle other communication, coordination, and administrative support tasks assigned by the lead.
Requirements:
- HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Level 4 or above, with an official certificate
- working-level Chinese in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Proven Chinese–English translation / interpretation experience (1+ year recommended; engineering-sector background preferred).
- Able to work closely with the China-based lead and communicate effectively with Nigerians — bilingual fluency, cross-cultural sensitivity, and adaptability to a Chinese-managed work rhythm.
Additional:
- Near-native English (Nigeria's working language)
- Able to reside in Lagos and accept occasional local travel
- Strong sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and follow-through.
Preferred:
- Prior translation experience in engineering fields (e.g., construction, civil works, infrastructure sites) is preferred.
