Role Description
The Volunteer Legal Officer is a volunteer role based in Zaria with a hybrid work arrangement, allowing some tasks to be completed from home. The person in this role will review, draft, and update contracts related to art leasing and commissioning, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and protecting the rights of organization and clients. Daily responsibilities include providing legal advice to the team, preparing and organizing legal documents, supporting negotiations with partners, and identifying legal risks in business activities. The Volunteer Legal Officer will collaborate closely with management, teams, and external stakeholders to establish clear legal frameworks, maintain accurate records, and support policy development that aligns with the organization’s mission.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess foundational knowledge in Law and Business Law, with an understanding of legal principles relevant to commercial and creative industries.
- Candidates should possess skills in Contract Law and Legal Document Preparation for drafting, reviewing, and clarifying agreements and related documentation.
- Candidates should possess experience or interest in Legal Consulting, including providing clear, practical legal guidance to non-legal stakeholders.
- Candidates should possess strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to identify and mitigate legal risks.
- Candidates should possess effective written and verbal communication skills, professionalism in confidential matters, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
- A degree in Law or a related discipline, familiarity with Nigerian legal frameworks, and prior experience in contract or commercial law are advantageous.
- Experience and understanding of the art and creative industry is a plus.
