Job Summary
The Technical Design Manager is responsible for leading the design and development of vehicle systems, components, and structures across the product lifecycle.
The role requires deep expertise in automobile design, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes, with responsibility for driving innovation, ensuring design quality, and aligning product development with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Strategy
Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of vehicle platforms, components, and systems.
Define design standards, engineering guidelines, and best practices across projects.
Drive innovation in vehicle design to improve performance, safety, durability, and cost efficiency.
Oversee multiple design projects from concept through production.
Engineering & Technical Oversight
Review and approve detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company requirements.
Lead design validation, testing, and prototyping activities.
Apply advanced engineering analysis including simulations (FEA, CFD where applicable).
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Production, Quality Control, Procurement, and After-Sales teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Provide technical guidance during vehicle assembly, testing, and product launch.
Incorporate feedback from production and field performance into design improvements.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a team of design engineers and draftsmen.
Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure timely project delivery.
Drive continuous learning and technical skill development within the design team.
Project & Resource Management
Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans for design activities.
Monitor progress and ensure adherence to schedules and cost targets.
Manage design documentation, revisions, and version control.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction.
Stay updated on emerging automotive technologies including EV systems, lightweight materials, and advanced manufacturing processes.
Lead research initiatives to enhance product competitiveness.
Requirements & Qualifications
B.Sc. / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline.
Master’s degree or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 - 10 years’ experience in automobile design and engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
Proven experience in vehicle design, development, and production processes.
Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Experience with engineering analysis tools (FEA, simulation software).
In-depth knowledge of automotive systems (chassis, powertrain, body structure, suspension, electrical systems).
Strong leadership, project management, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
