Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the installation of distribution poles (concrete and metal) to correct depths and spacing (45-50 m apart), following NEMSA certification standards and manufacturer specifications
- Oversee the installation of LV and MV overhead distribution lines, including Aerial Bundled Cable in various sizes (95 mm² 3-phase, 50 mm² 1-phase, 16 mm² service drop), stay wires, anchors, clamps, and associated line hardware
- Install stay wires at poles under irregular tension or at riser poles to ensure structural integrity
- Verify the quality of all installation materials, clamps, anchors, suspension hardware, and workmanship throughout the construction process
- Supervise safe tapping of service drops using piercing connectors, ensuring correct conductor configuration (single-phase = 2 wires; three-phase = 4 wires)
- Oversee installation of meter enclosures for both single-phase (DR2 and DR4 configurations) and three-phase applications
- Ensure accurate connections by coordinating with customer data to confirm meter type matches contracted service
- Verify correct installation of IP65 enclosures with appropriate breakers (16A 2-pole for single-phase; 4-pole for three-phase)
- Conduct pre-construction site inspections to identify and resolve obstacles, access constraints, and routing challenges
- Enforce proper use of PPE and safe working practices for all crew members in compliance with HSE procedures
- Support troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities on completed distribution networks
Requirements:
- Proven experience with Medium Voltage (MV) distribution line installation and maintenance
- Previous experience working for a Distribution Company (DISCO)
- Valid NERC certification or other relevant certification related to power distribution networks
- Practical knowledge of overhead distribution line construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and HSE compliance in electrical construction environments
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and construction standards
