PATH’s Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA) brings together our expertise across every stage of the long and complex process of vaccine research, development, and delivery to make lifesaving vaccines widely available to children and communities across the world. CVIA’s current portfolio encompasses more than two dozen vaccines either in development or already in use to protect against fifteen different diseases. Our focus is on vaccines to address the leading diseases that claim children’s lives worldwide: pneumonia, diarrheal disease, and malaria; as well as other global health priorities, such as polio and meningitis. We work in partnership with national health ministries, pharmaceutical manufacturers, donors, international financing and regulatory organizations, and many others. PATH has led numerous global partnerships, including the award-winning Meningitis Vaccine Project and the Malaria Vaccine Initiative, which helped develop the first malaria vaccine candidate recommended for pilot implementation.
PATH is currently seeking a Senior Field Officer for a multi-faceted project to improve routine immunization (RI) coverage in Kebbi State, Nigeria by deploying Mobile Immunization Teams (MIT) across 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs). This position reports to the Kebbi RI State Program Manager and works closely with the project Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and Advocacy, Communications, and Social Mobilization (ACSM) Officers in Kebbi. This role will oversee a team of 16 Field Officers who will provide training, supervision, and support to the MITs.
Responsibilities:

  • Conduct project orientation for Field Officers (FOs) and provide ongoing direct management. of FOs.
  • Serve as Field Officer for one LGA.
  • In collaboration with health facility staff and other health officials, develop and update microplans.
  • Support the Senior Program Manager to manage scope of local partner(s) charged with MITs responsibility, focusing on ensuring:
  • appropriate selection, orientation, and monitoring of the MITs.
  • deployment schedule for MITs and Field Officers.
  • Oversee the design of the training for MITs and ensure effective and quality delivery of the training in collaboration with local partner(s).
  • Work closely with health facility staff on workplans for supportive supervision; engage with HF staff who can be part of supportive supervision.
  • Oversee the supportive supervision of the MITs by the Field Officers.
  • Work closely with project MEL and ACSM officers to facilitate their interactions with MITs and align activities.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting of project activities.
  • Work with ACSM officers to identify changes in vaccine information landscape, including new rumors or misinformation, and determine if changes are needed to MIT materials and messages.
  • Ensure feedback from field officers and MITs regarding communications, information, and messaging is consolidated and shared with the ACSM officers and any changes to communications activities are coordinated appropriately with the ACSM officers.
  • Monitor vaccines and related supplies and coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure their adequacy.
  • Work closely with project MEL officers and local partner(s) to review data on MIT operations and performance and adapt MIT and Field Officer activities as appropriate.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in public health or a related field, plus at least 5 years of related programmatic experience working on health service delivery; experience in immunization service delivery strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation of health and development programs. 
  • Experience managing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with local health facility officials and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Professional proficiency in English
  • Willingness to travel within Kebbi State as required by project activities.
