SleekFM is seeking a proactive, articulate, and detail-oriented Reporter/Journalist to join our news and programming team in Agbor, Delta State. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, researching, verifying, writing, and presenting accurate news stories and reports for radio, digital platforms, and other station channels.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Research, investigate, and report on local, national, and relevant international news stories.
  • Attend press briefings, public events, interviews, and other assignments on behalf of SleekFM.
  • Conduct interviews with newsmakers, community members, experts, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Write clear, accurate, balanced, and engaging news scripts for radio broadcast and digital publication.
  • Present live or recorded news reports professionally when required.
  • Verify facts, quotations, sources, and information before publication or broadcast.
  • Monitor current affairs, breaking news, trends, and community issues relevant to SleekFM’s audience.
  • Produce audio recordings, voice reports, and supporting content for news bulletins and programmes.
  • Work closely with producers, presenters, editors, and technical staff to meet newsroom deadlines.
  • Observe professional journalism ethics, station editorial policies, confidentiality requirements, and applicable broadcasting standards.
  • Support the promotion of SleekFM’s news programmes, events, sponsored content, and approved station initiatives when assigned.
  • Carry out other reasonable newsroom or programming duties assigned by management.


Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma or relevant training in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, English, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Previous reporting, newsroom, broadcasting, writing, or media experience will be an advantage.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of the local Ika languageis a distinct advantage.
  • Strong research, interviewing, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Sound news judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and fairness.
  • Ability to use social media and digital platforms for news gathering and audience engagement.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or during breaking-news situations where necessary.
  • Willingness to work in Agbor, Delta State.
