CHILD SAFEGUARDING
Level 3. The responsibilities of this post may require the post holder to have regular contact with children and young people. In the overseas context all posts are considered to be level 3.
As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.
INTRODUCTION
Save the Children International is a 'dual mandate' organisation and as such equal priority will be given to both humanitarian and development work. This is the only way we will be able to ensure that some of the fundamental rights that we believe children have, such as survival, safety and constant access to protection and education can be guaranteed. As part of a commitment to work with children through humanitarian interventions Save the Children will support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations.
ROLE
To enhance operational effectiveness and ensure timely implementation of activities, the Health and Nutrition Intern will provide direct support to the team. This role is designed to alleviate the workload of existing staff by assisting with routine program tasks, thereby contributing to improved service delivery.
Main Responsibilities
The post holder will receive a context specific ToR for each deployment, which will draw upon the responsibilities outlined below.
Programme Support (typically Will Be At Field Level)

  • Assist in the collection, entry, and organization of program data.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of records.
  • Facilitate the movement of nutrition supplies, including RUTF.
  • Support administrative tasks, including printing official correspondence prepared by the Nutrition Team for submission to state-level stakeholders.
  • Help organize meetings, trainings, and other program-related events.
  • Maintain accurate records of logistics and administrative activities.

General

  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

Essential
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
 Health Education / Public Health / Nutrition / BSc or equivalent with minimum of 1-year progressive experience post NYSC
 Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with all beneficiaries and their carers
 Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
 Experience in community-based interventions in Nigeria especially in the NE
 Demonstrable ability at report writing
 Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
 Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles
 Fluency in written and spoken English and any local language
 Computer literate
Desirable
 Experience in supporting the implementing nutrition and health interventions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
All Global Roster members are available and ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice. They will normally work unusual hours and are often working in stressful and insecure environments.

The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.
