Job Description/Requirements
About Notify Health
Notify Health is a start-up nonprofit with a big mission: to ensure all Nigerian children receive life-saving immunizations. We were incubated by Ambitious Impact 18 months ago and are supported by GiveWell, a leading charity evaluator. Up to half of missed vaccinations happen simply because caregivers forget or don’t realize they need to return. We’re here to change that! We use simple SMS and automated voice calls to help caregivers remember and track vital vaccination appointments.
We are committed to delivering a highly impactful, cost-effective program grounded in strong evidence. To achieve this, we take a tech-driven, pragmatic approach—leveraging existing government systems and Nigeria’s widespread mobile phone use. In collaboration with local partners, we collect details like a child’s name, birth date, and caregiver’s phone number, then send timely, targeted immunization reminders through our mass messaging system.
Following a successful pilot in Kogi State, where we enrolled 2,000+ children in just 3 months, we’re scaling up. In 2025, we have supported close to 20,000 caregivers across two states, Kogi and Benue, and expanded into additional interventions that further improve child health outcomes. We are growing fast with a highly scalable solution and aim to reach millions of children within a few short years.
The team at Notify Health moves quickly, learns constantly, and cares deeply about impact. We are dynamic, always looking to improve our model, and not afraid to pivot our strategy if the evidence shows that it is the highest impact route. We’re looking for someone who shares our energy and drive to tackle undervaccination in Nigeria and beyond.
About the MEL Manager Role
Data and evidence are central to our work. As Notify Health continues to scale our vaccination reminder programs across Nigeria, we are looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Manager who will work directly with our Co-Founder Daniel to take ownership of our program data and M&E systems and help strengthen how we learn, adapt, and deliver impact at scale. This role is a unique opportunity to be an early and influential team member, helping shape our systems, culture, and trajectory. It sits at the intersection of hands-on data work, process improvement, and team management, and it is critical to ensuring high-quality implementation.
The MEL Manager will be a technically versed operator who is a role model and comfortable working directly with messy, real-world health data across tools, while also managing and developing a small MEL team. They will effortlessly communicate expectations and insights across levels and audiences, from organisation leadership to MEL Officers, program staff, and health workers. This is an ideal role for someone with several years of MEL experience who wants to build leadership skills, make a difference in a start-up environment, and grow with us, all while continuing hands-on work with the data they love. Over time, as the MEL function grows, suitable candidates may progress to lead larger teams or take on senior leadership roles.
Role Responsibilities
We are a small but growing organization. As the MEL Manager, your role will initially include a significant amount of hands-on data work and will shift to more team management and process improvement as we jointly grow your team. Your main priority is making sure that caregiver data is processed accurately from the field to our reminder systems. You will also orchestrate regular M&E activities like phone surveys and analyses, and you will present findings to various stakeholders either ad-hoc or on live dashboards. You are responsible for MEL team performance, holding team members accountable, supporting team members’ professional growth, and evolving systems and processes.
Execute and Own Day-to-Day Monitoring & MEL Operations (45%)
- Own core program data and monitoring processes end-to-end, including reviewing, auditing, and processing a high volume of diverse data sources such as paper register photos, SurveyCTO submissions, audio recordings, and phone surveys.
- Execute sensitive, mission-critical operational MEL and program data tasks such as caregiver enrolment into the reminder system and reimbursement of health workers.
- Summarise data quality issues, implementation feedback, and key learnings in clear, usable formats (spreadsheets, dashboards, short write-ups) and communicate actionable insights directly to program staff, health workers, and leadership.
- Maintain and update core dashboards and recurring monitoring analyses to support day-to-day program oversight.
Improve and Scale MEL Systems and Processes (20%)
- Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of MEL processes, checklists, and quality standards to enable quick onboarding of new staff, accountability, and process evolution.
- Identify and implement practical improvements to monitoring workflows, including better templates and automations.
- Support setup and iteration of surveys and data collection workflows in SurveyCTO as program needs evolve.
- Improve dashboards and visualisations to better support program decision-making.
- Support leadership to evolve MEL systems at a strategic level, including refinements to the Theory of Change, logframe, metric definitions, and reporting structures
Special Analyses and Strategic Support (15%)
- Clean and prepare data for ad-hoc analyses, quarterly program reviews, and evaluation-related work (e.g. child immunisation data).
- Conduct targeted analyses to answer specific program questions and communicate findings clearly to leadership.
- Support periodic summaries or scorecards (e.g. quarterly MEL updates) tracking program performance over time.
Manage and Develop the MEL Team (20%)
- Line-manage and support a growing team of MEL Officers to deliver high-quality results.
- Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to improve data quality and process efficiency
- Support hiring of MEL staff, including interviews and test tasks.
About You
You’re a hands-on, highly reliable MEL professional who enjoys working directly with program data, improving systems, and supporting teams to deliver high-quality results.
