Job Summary

A leading advocacy organization dedicated to promoting food justice and equity in Nigeria with offices in Abuja, and Lagos requires the services of a Project Officer for its Industry Monitoring and Response Campaign under its Food Justice Campaign. The Industry Monitoring Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the campaign activities of the organization by monitoring Industry stakeholders’ compliance with regulatory standards and promoting transparency and accountability within the food system. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of food industry dynamics, regulatory frameworks, policy advocacy strategies and a flair for research.

Job Description/Requirements


  • Develop offline and online monitoring strategy for the food industry in Nigeria.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and document food industry practices, including but not limited to products, distribution, marketing, and pricing in relation to public health concerns.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of industry activities, violations, and enforcement actions, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Observe and document industry infractions of national laws and public health policies.
  • Analyze food industry behavior to develop communication and advocacy materials.
  • Expose food industry tactics to undermine public health policies.
  • Expose marketing of unhealthy food and beverages to children.
  • Work with the communication team to develop and deplore appropriate counter response.
  • Produce reports on food industry tactics in Nigeria.
  • Liaise with partners, allies, and NGO coalition members to promote healthy food policies in Nigeria.
  • Monitor social media behaviour, digital advertisements, and unpack information from food industry advertisement and their allies.
  • Stay updated about relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards, and provide guidance and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.


  • A journalist with at least 5 years post qualification work experience in food industry monitoring, regulatory compliance, advocacy, or related fields.
  • Vast experience in social media, online marketing, and understanding of digital media trends and analytics.
  • Familiarity with social justice principles, equity issues, and community organizing approaches.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends and patterns.
  • Effective communication skills, including writing, public speaking, research skills and interpersonal interaction.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Previous work in Public Health advocacy will be an added advantage.
