Job Summary

Maximedge Technology & Consulting Limited a HR Consulting firm is currently seeking an experienced Drilling Engineer for her client; a major player in the oil and gas in industry. We are looking for an experienced and responsible Safety Officer to join our team. As a Safety Officer, you will be responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) guidelines. Your main goal will be to always ensure safe working environment and prevent any injuries and accidents

  • Minimum Qualification: Degree
  • Experience Level: Mid level
  • Experience Length: 4 years

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities

Their responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan and implement OHS policies and programs
  • Identify and assess hazards, risks and control measures for a specific operation or process.
  • Conduct ongoing review of operations and processes to identify potential hazards, risks and control measures that should be implemented to reduce these risks, including all costs involved in implementing such measures.
  • Assess and document hazards, risks and controls in a manner consistent with established procedures and practices.
  • Set up and supervising temporary work areas.
  • Supervise the safe handling, storage & disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Supervise the operation of any potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Improve workplace safety and employee productivity by transitioning from manual safety procedures to digital safety management systems.
  • Ensure that all company employees meet all OSHA requirements.
  • Provide OSHA training if necessary.
  • Ensure that health, safety, and environmental policies are followed.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and injuries and refer them to the proper authorities.
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis
  • Review existing policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all the rules and regulations
  • Work with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety
  • Conduct risk assessment
  • Enforce preventative measures
  • Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions
  • Check if all the employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations
  • Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes
  • Oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees' safety
  • Compile safety programs.
  • Practice safe working techniques.
  • Implement and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Establish a cordial and professional relationship with employees.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to share best practice techniques.
  • Standardize health and safety in order to remain consistent.
  • Identify hazardous waste and disposing of it correctly.
  • Promote safety initiatives.
  • Compile and maintain relevant registers to ensure compliance.
  • Document staff information, minutes of meetings, and reports compiled for management.
  • Regularly inspect equipment.

Requirements:

Qualifications include:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in HSE Management, social science, Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, pure since or any similar engineering field.
  • Specialized knowledge: Thorough knowledge of various kinds of software, organization, time management, Proficient with computers and other standard office technology., Superior organizational and communication skills., Possess the ability to work productively, efficiently & effectively with initiative and drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality.


Skills: A safety officer must have the following skills; In-depth knowledge of

  • Excellent knowledge of legislations and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • years of experience in producing reports
  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Working knowledge of safety management information system

Abilities: Multitask, Attention to detail, work under pressure

  • Professional Certification: Related professional certifications will be an added advantage


Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience (with a strong preference for 3-7 years’ plus experience) as a safety officer in the conventional oil industry or a major international oil operator.
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, chemical, mineral, or petroleum engineering or other relevant fields
  • Necessary medical certificates
  • Certificate in occupational health and safety
  • HSE level 1, 2 & 3
  • ISO 9001, 45001 OR 14001 Lead auditor
  • NEBOSH IGC
  • Other characteristics: Possess the willingness to learn, improve and adapt. Have a detailed understanding of mud engineering.

 

Working conditions: The status is full time, at-will employment; your jurisdiction is in Rivers state and project sites

 

 Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers State , Nigeria
