Job summary
The General Manager will oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the haulage business, ensuring efficiency, profitability, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. The role requires strong leadership, logistics expertise, and strategic thinking to drive growth, manage fleets, optimize delivery processes.

Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily haulage operations, including fleet scheduling, routing, and cargo delivery.
- Ensure trucks, drivers, and logistics staff comply with company policies and government regulations.
- Develop and implement operational policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and KPIs for efficiency.
- Monitor turnaround time, fuel usage, truck maintenance, and loading/unloading efficiency.
Fleet & Maintenance Oversight:
- Manage fleet utilization to minimize downtime and maximize asset productivity
- Supervise workshop/maintenance teams to ensure regular servicing, repairs, and roadworthiness of all trucks.
- Ensure proper documentation for all vehicles (licenses, insurance, permits.
People & Stakeholder Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage drivers, logistics officers, and support staff.
- Coordinate with clients, government agencies, and transport unions where necessary.
- Enforce discipline in departmental heads to maintain safety standards and driver discipline to reduce accidents and liabilities.
Financial & Strategic Oversight:
- Monitor operational costs (fuel, repairs, fines, and overheads) and implement cost-control measures.
- Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate billing, invoicing, and timely revenue collection.
- Provide strategic recommendations for fleet expansion, route optimization, and business growth.
- Prepare periodic reports on performance, profitability, and management challenges.
Compliance & Safety;
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian haulage laws, traffic regulations, and health & safety standards.
- Implement and enforce driver training, safety drills, and risk management practices.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and delivery delays, implementing corrective actions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or related field. (MBA or professional certification in Logistics/Transport is an added advantage).
- Minimum & a must have of 3–10 years in logistics/haulage operations, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian haulage operations, road networks, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience in fleet management, supervision, and workshop/maintenance coordination.
- Solid financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and reduce operational costs.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in logistics software, GPS tracking, and Microsoft Office tools.
