Role Description

We are currently recruiting for the role of an Electrician. This is a full-time, on-site role for our Agribusiness -H&W Rice located in Demsa- Adamawa State. The Electrician is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of electrical systems, machinery, and power distribution within the facility. This role involves preventive maintenance, rapid troubleshooting of electrical breakdowns, and installation of electrical components (motors, panels, sensors) to ensure maximum production uptime. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fibre-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  • Install, maintain, and repair heavy duty equipment and industrial communications systems.
  • Repair electrical systems, wiring, circuit breakers, equipment, and other components so that they remain at full functioning capacity.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and reactors.
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems and other related devices.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
  • May install, maintain, and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.
  • Test systems with devices such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and ohmmeters to ensure the system remains safe and that components are compatible.
  • Review blueprints to understand the placement of wiring or to comprehend the working of the equipment to provide the right service and repair.
  • Provide suggestions on the lifespan of equipment and other electrical components, advising when certain components should be replaced due to potential risks
  • Keep records of all maintenance and repair work conducted, including a record of any supplies ordered and used.
  • Ensure all routine maintenance work is handled on a regular schedule to reduce the risk of larger and more complex issues and to reduce costs.

·      Develop and implement regular, scheduled inspections of electrical equipment, including motors, control panels, transformers, and electrical panels to prevent breakdowns.

·      Respond immediately to electrical failures in production machinery (e.g., dryers, conveyors, milling machines) to minimize production downtime.

·      Install, maintain, and upgrade electrical wiring, conduit, and control systems for new machinery or plant expansions.

·      Service and repair AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and lighting systems.

·      Ensure strict adherence to health & safety standard & regulations, including lockout/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and ensure all electrical installations meet national and local safety codes.

·      Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and electrical consumption.

·      Manage the inventory of critical electrical spare parts for quick replacements. 

  • Perform other functions as required.


Qualifications

·      Proven experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a manufacturing or agricultural processing plant.

·      Minimum 3 - 5 years in an industrial setting, with preference for experience in agricultural, food processing, or milling industries.

·      Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.

·      In-depth knowledge of motors, switchgear, panel settings, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).

·      Strong knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC).

·      Expert ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults.

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Electrotechnology.
