Job summary

The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, improving plant performance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives in a highly regulated industrial environment involving lead processing, smelting, recycling operations, and utility systems.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Equipment Reliability:

  • Ensure maximum equipment availability and support the achievement of zero unplanned downtime across all plant operations.
  • Carry out preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on production equipment, utility systems, and plant infrastructure.
  • Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring of motors, drives, transformers, switchgear, control panels, sensors, and instrumentation systems.
  • Support the development and implementation of maintenance schedules and standard operating procedures for all electrical systems and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, equipment history, and reports using approved maintenance documentation systems.


Automation and Control Systems:

  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMI systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and industrial automation systems.
  • Support electrical panel design modifications, control circuit improvements, and automation upgrades where required.
  • Assist in commissioning new equipment, machinery, and plant expansion projects.


Utilities and Plant Infrastructure:

  • Maintain and support utility systems including generators, compressors, water treatment systems, effluent treatment plants, ventilation systems, and power distribution networks.
  • Monitor and ensure the efficient operation of plant electrical installations and utility equipment.
  • Participate in energy management and power optimization initiatives.


Spare Parts and Inventory Management:

  • Identify, document, and manage critical electrical and instrumentation spare parts requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support procurement activities to ensure availability of critical maintenance components.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and preservation of maintenance tools, equipment, and spare parts.


Health, Safety, Environment, and Compliance:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with company HSE policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work, and other safety procedures during maintenance activities.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives, particularly those relating to lead recycling operations and hazardous material handling.
  • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.


Vendor and Project Support:

  • Liaise with external contractors and service providers on calibration, instrumentation, and specialized maintenance activities.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new machinery and equipment.
  • Assist with plant improvement projects and process optimization initiatives.


Asset Management:

  • Support Finance and Asset Management teams during physical asset verification and inventory exercises.
  • Maintain updated records of plant electrical assets and equipment.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of OND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3–4 years' experience in industrial electrical maintenance within a manufacturing, recycling, smelting, heavy industry, battery production, or lead recycling environment.
  • Experience working with industrial automation, electrical control systems, and process equipment.
  • Experience in lead recycling, battery manufacturing, metallurgical processing, or similar heavy industrial operations is highly desirable.
  • Professional certifications in electrical maintenance, automation, PLC programming, or industrial safety will be an added advantage.
