Compliance officer — AML/KYC (Nigeria) Remote · Full-time
Job descriptions & requirements
About The Role
You will be ZeltaPay's named compliance officer — accountable to regulators, BaaS partners, and our board. You will build our compliance function from scratch: policies, KYC procedures, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, and regulatory filings. The Compliance Officer will oversee the implementation and maintenance of ZeltaPay’s anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) frameworks, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements applicable to Nigeria and other relevant jurisdictions.
What we're looking for
What You'll Own Immediately
- AML and KYC policy documentation — fit for CBN examination and BaaS provider due diligence.
- Customer risk classification framework — tiered KYC aligned to CBN KYC Regulations 2023.
- Transaction monitoring thresholds and suspicious activity reporting (SARs) to NFIU.
- Compliance due diligence responses for potential BaaS onboarding.
- AML/CFT training for all staff — this is a CBN requirement regardless of team size.
- Velocity and fraud pattern definitions — in collaboration with the engineering team.
What You'll Build Toward
- Regulatory engagement strategy for CBN PSSP or Switching licence application.
- Board-level compliance reporting cadence and risk committee structure.
- FATF Travel Rule readiness as cross-border transaction volumes grow.
- A compliance culture — where product and engineering treat regulatory requirements as inputs, not constraints.
What We Require
- 5+ years in financial services compliance in Nigeria — bank, fintech, EMI, or licensed PSP.
- Deep working knowledge of CBN AML/CFT Regulations, NFIU reporting obligations, and EFCC Act requirements.
- Strong Analytical Skills and Finance knowledge to assess transaction patterns, customer risk profiles, and potential financial crime indicators.
- Direct experience authoring AML policies and KYC procedures — not reviewing someone else's. - Experience preparing or materially contributing to a CBN licence application.
- The ability to advise product teams in plain language — translating regulation into buildable decisions.
- Willingness to operate as a solo compliance function and build the processes from nothing.
What This Role Is Not
- A role for someone who has only worked inside large, established compliance teams.
- A role where regulatory accountability can be delegated or deferred.
- A role suited to someone who needs existing frameworks before they can operate.
NICE TO HAVE
- CAMS certification (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist).
- Existing professional relationships with CBN examiners or NFIU contacts.
- Prior experience at a Nigerian BaaS provider, payment processor, or EMI.
- Familiarity with Dojah, Smile Identity, or Mono for KYC identity verification.
