We are seeking a reliable, delivery-driven Backend Software Developer (PHP / Laravel / Database- Focused) to take ownership of ongoing and new software projects. This role is critical to our operations and requires someone who is technically sound, disciplined, responsive, and accountable. The ideal candidate must have strong hands-on experience with PHP (Laravel framework) and relational databases (MySQL and PostgreSQL). Experience with Python-based systems—especially Odoo ERP development—is a strong advantage. This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for someone who understands real-world systems, can work with minimal supervision, and is committed to meeting timelines and communicating clearly.

Responsibilities:
Backend Development & System Delivery:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications using PHP (Laravel)
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications
- Implement secure, scalable, and maintainable backend logic
- Translate functional requirements into clean, efficient backend solutions
- Work with frontend developers, product owners, and project managers to deliver end-to-end solutions
Database Design & Management:
- Design, optimize, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
- Write efficient queries, migrations, indexes, and stored procedures
- Handle data integrity, performance tuning, and backup strategies
- Support multi-tenant and multi-company data structures where applicable
System Maintenance & Improvement:
- Debug, refactor, and improve existing systems and legacy codebases
- Identify bottlenecks and propose architectural or performance improvements
- Implement proper logging, error handling, and system monitoring
- Ensure systems are secure and compliant with best practices
Collaboration & Accountability:
- Provide regular progress updates on assigned tasks
- Meet agreed timelines and flag risks early
- Participate in technical reviews, planning sessions, and retrospectives
- Maintain clear documentation for code, APIs, and system workflows
Requirements:
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (a formal degree is beneficial but strong experience can substitute)
- Minimum of 2–4 years hands-on backend development experience
- Proven track record of delivered projects, not just learning or internships
Core (Must-Have):
- Strong proficiency in PHP (Laravel Framework)
- Solid experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Good understanding of MVC architecture
- Familiarity with Git (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket)
- Understanding of backend security practices (authentication, authorization, data protection)
Added Advantage:
- Experience with Python
- Experience developing or customizing Odoo ERP (backend modules, models, views, APIs)
- Familiarity with Linux servers, deployment, or DevOps basics
- Experience integrating third-party services (payment gateways, SMS, email, external APIs)
Required Tools & Work Practices:
- Git-based version control
- Issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, ClickUp, Trello, GitHub Issues)
- Clear documentation habits (Markdown, README files, basic technical docs)
- Ability to work with staging and production environments

Remuneration: NGN 180,000–250,000 per month (based on experience, competence, and delivery consistency)
