Job summary

We are seeking a highly organized Accountant to manage the financial operations of our Supermarket business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing inventory accounting, monitoring sales and operating costs etc.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain the general ledger.
  • Process invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and journal entries.
  • Monitor inventory transactions, stock movements, and inventory valuation.
  • Reconcile physical inventory with accounting records and investigate discrepancies.
  • Track the cost of goods sold (COGS) and monitor production or procurement costs.
  • Work closely with the warehouse and procurement teams to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Support periodic stock counts and inventory audits.
  • Monitor daily sales reports and reconcile sales with cash and electronic payments.
  • Analyze sales trends, gross margins, and product profitability.
  • Ensure accurate recording of customer payments and credit transactions.
  • Prepare reports on revenue performance and outstanding receivables.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and statutory remittances, including VAT, PAYE, WHT, and pension contributions.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing financial schedules and documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with company financial policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare financial analyses and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor operating expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Generate regular financial and management reports for decision-making.
  • Support management with financial planning and business performance analysis.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting or a related field.
  • Proven years of accounting experience, preferably in an FMCG, manufacturing, retail, or distribution environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, inventory accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Tally, Zoho Books, or similar ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good understanding of Nigerian tax laws and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
