Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive midwifery curriculum, including theoretical and practical components.
  • Conduct lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in midwifery and related nursing subjects.
  • Supervise and assess students during clinical placements in maternity settings.
  • Utilize the college's simulation studio to provide hands-on training in midwifery skills and emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate with local hospitals and clinics to ensure students gain diverse clinical experiences.
  • Mentor students in developing critical thinking skills and evidence-based midwifery practice.
  • Participate in research activities related to maternal and child health.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and review processes for midwifery programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of midwifery practices and incorporate new evidence into teaching.
  • Support students in preparing for midwifery licensure examinations.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with specialization in Midwifery; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current, valid registration and license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience as a midwife in hospital settings.
  • At least 2 years of experience in midwifery education or clinical instruction
  • Strong clinical skills in all areas of midwifery, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Proficiency in using simulation equipment and educational technology.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting student midwives in clinical settings.
  • Physical presence at Merit College of Nursing Sciences in Orlu, Imo State is required for this role, including participation in clinical supervision at partner hospitals.
