The Group Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, monitoring and successful delivery of strategic projects across the Group.
The role will provide structured project management support across subsidiaries and business units, ensuring that approved projects are delivered within agreed scope, timelines, budgets and quality standards.
The Group Project Manager will work across multiple functions and entities, coordinating internal teams, consultants, contractors, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery. The role will also provide management with clear visibility of project progress, risks, resource requirements, financial status and key decisions requiring escalation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Group Project Planning & Management
- Develop detailed project plans for approved Group projects.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, milestones and resource requirements.
- Establish appropriate project governance structures for each project.
- Develop project schedules and coordinate activities across multiple workstreams.
- Ensure project activities remain aligned with approved business objectives.
- Coordinate project kick-off meetings and establish clear roles and responsibilities.
- Ensure appropriate project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
2. Project Execution & Delivery
- Coordinate the execution of projects from initiation through completion and handover.
- Monitor project activities against approved plans, milestones and deliverables.
- Identify delays, dependencies and bottlenecks and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Ensure project teams remain focused on agreed deliverables.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of project activities.
- Escalate material delays, cost variations, scope changes and other critical issues to management.
3. Project Budget & Cost Management
- Work with Finance and relevant business units to develop project budgets.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Track committed and actual project costs.
- Review project cost variations and identify potential cost overruns early.
- Ensure project expenditure is properly documented and approved.
- Support value-for-money assessments for significant project expenditure.
- Coordinate with Procurement to ensure project-related procurement is aligned with approved scope and budget.
4. Project Risk & Issue Management
- Establish project risk registers and maintain them throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify potential risks relating to cost, time, quality, resources, procurement, regulatory requirements and operational dependencies.
- Develop mitigation and contingency plans for significant project risks.
- Maintain project issue logs and track resolution.
- Escalate material risks and unresolved issues to the appropriate management level.
- Ensure lessons learned from completed projects are documented and applied to future projects.
5. Contractor, Consultant & Vendor Management
- Coordinate the engagement and management of project contractors, consultants and vendors.
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed scope, timelines, quality and commercial terms.
- Coordinate project meetings with contractors and relevant internal stakeholders.
- Review project deliverables and identify deficiencies or deviations from agreed specifications.
- Track contractor obligations and outstanding deliverables.
- Escalate persistent contractor performance issues.
6. Project Governance & Controls
- Establish appropriate governance and reporting structures for Group projects.
- Ensure projects operate within approved scope and delegated authority.
- Monitor and control project scope changes.
- Ensure all significant changes to scope, budget or timelines receive the required approval before implementation.
- Maintain project documentation, approvals, contracts, schedules, reports and completion records.
- Ensure project decisions and actions are properly documented.
7. Executive & Management Reporting
- Prepare regular project status reports for Group Management and relevant governance committees.
- Provide clear visibility on: Project progress, Budget and expenditure, Key milestones, Risks, Issues, Dependencies, Resource requirements, Decisions required.
- Develop consolidated reports covering the Group's project portfolio.
- Provide early warning of projects that are at risk of delay, cost overrun or failure to achieve intended outcomes.
- Present project updates to senior management and other relevant stakeholders.
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Finance, Procurement, Legal, HR, IT, Operations, Risk, Internal Audit and other relevant functions.
- Ensure projects obtain required functional input and approvals.
- Resolve cross-functional dependencies that may affect project delivery.
- Facilitate communication between project sponsors, project teams and external stakeholders.
- Ensure project requirements are clearly communicated to all relevant parties.
9. Strategic & Transformation Projects
- Support the implementation of strategic initiatives approved by Group Management.
- Coordinate business transformation, operational improvement, technology implementation, facility development, expansion and other strategic projects.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable project plans.
- Track whether project outputs are aligned with the intended business outcomes.
- Support post-implementation reviews to determine whether projects have delivered their intended benefits.
10. Project Close-Out & Handover
- Ensure completed projects undergo formal close-out.
- Confirm that all agreed deliverables have been completed and accepted.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning and handover where applicable.
- Ensure outstanding defects, documentation and contractual obligations are resolved.
- Prepare project completion reports.
- Document lessons learned and recommendations for future projects.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional certification such as PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 7–10 years' project management experience, preferably with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience managing projects across multiple business units, subsidiaries or locations will be an advantage.
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors and vendors.
- Strong experience in project scheduling, budgeting, risk management and executive reporting.
- Experience managing capital projects, infrastructure projects, technology projects, operational transformation or other strategic projects will be advantageous.
- Strong proficiency in project management and reporting tools.
