CV writing 201:Common mistakes on CV

How long have you been searching for a job? What kind of feedback have you been receiving? If you’ve been submitting for multiple positions and getting no response in return, the culprit may very well be your CV. The first meaningful contact an employer has with a job-seeker is via the CV. Once your CV does not grab and keep the attention of the employer, the chance of getting called for an interview is low.

We checked several CVs and discovered that some shouldn’t have passed through the security men at the gate not to talk of the receptionist.

Check out some of the “awkwardest” CV and cover letter typos and bloopers we saw. You might be guilty.

‘I am oke***u uchenna. am jst a cool guy and am the first son of my father, am into bussines electrical materials in particula. I lyk to be honest to people but hot me when those i trust betray me.’

  •  Including responsibilities like:

Answer phone, file paper, respond to email ,run errands and type letters

Receiving and making Calls with proper Phone ethics

  •  Possessing skills like: 

I can type without looking at the keyboard

Demonstrated ability in multitasking

I possess a moderate education but willing to learn

Analytical & Problem Solving skills:  As a child, I always enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles and was always determined to find the missing piece

Attention to detail

 I am great with public

My skills are strong work ethic

I am God fearing

I am an unmarried bachelor

I can ‘multi-tast’

I am accounting and trustworthy

I can work with no supervision

Trust, Interdependence, Genuineness, Empathy, and Risk.

Approach all maters in a non biased and professional manner

Self motivated

Skilled with MS office (Word, Power point, Excel and Access).

I have a known track record and excellent experience with ‘accurancy’ and fixing ‘erors’

  •  Hobbies:

Driving, browsing

And my favorite taken from a cover letter I got:

‘Attached is my CV in response to your advert for a Blog manager and Corporate communications person. I would have loved to attach some of my written works but they consist mainly of course works in school. If however you insist I will give you the name and phone number of my English lecturer to talk to…’
