Job Summary

The Transport/School Bus Service Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Transportation Department, ensuring a safe and reliable bus service to transport students to and from school. This responsibility will extend to developing strategies to ensure the efficient and cost-effective functioning of the Transport service.

Job Description/Requirements


  • Day-to-day management of the transportation department
  • Management of School related vehicles
  • Management of drivers and office administrative staff
  • Develop and be conversant with bus routes, and schedule vehicles and drivers
  • Conform to all Government Transport  laws and regulations
  • Serve as a member of the Operations Management Team and attend weekly meetings
  • Prepare and submit monthly Board Reports to the Head of Operations
  • Allocate and schedule new students on the applicable bus route.
  • Develop after-school activity bus lists and routes
  • Develop weekend duty bus lists and routes
  • Develop and keep current the Transport Department Incident Management Report, Policies, and Procedures, and ensure compliance by all department members
  • Manage incidents requiring employee discipline
  • Prepare the pick-up and drop-off schedules for special route students
  • Meet the busses as they arrive on school premises each morning, and leave each afternoon
  • Order and manage diesel/petrol cards
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash
  • Working with vendors and suppliers, authorize and managing vehicle repairs, fleet cards, and maintenance
  • Keep current with and maintain an awareness of the Transport industry
  • Maintain safety standards to ensure compliance with insurance regulations, and develop a program  of preventative safety
  • Monitor and maintain the vehicle tracking and camera systems on the buses
  • Develop and monitor the Transport department operations and capital expense budgets
  • Communicate to parents with respect to inquiries, complaints, and special requests
  • Invoice overtime costs to applicable cost centers on a monthly basis
  • Schedule bussing for field trips.
  • Issue security gate passes for busses leaving the premises and maintain a gate pass register, system, and process
  • Maintain annual leave records for Transport department personnel, and ensure leave forms are completed as required
  • Reconcile driver cell phone bills for payroll deduction
  • Collect and assign school errands and work-related duties to drivers
  • Identify training needs and continued driver development, such as advanced driver training and safety
  • Maintain accurate current year and historical transport department files
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Head of Operations or the School Director


  • Minimum academic qualification of a Transport Management Diploma from a certified tertiary institution
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in the transportation industry
  • Driver’s License and Mechanical Skill (Automobile)
  • A positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • A committed team player with the ability to take initiative
  • Able to communicate well with students, staff, and parents
  • Prior experience working in a Transport office and managing a fleet of buses
  • Experience in scheduling bus routes, vehicle maintenance, and employee management
  • Strategic planning background in relation to the transport industry
  • Prior experience driving a bus, preferably a school bus
  • Previous experience in working with a variety of GPS tracking, incident monitoring, video, and incident applications. Car track experience would be advantageous

Remuneration: NGN 120,000 - 150,000
