Job Description/Requirements
Baking and Pastry Production:
- Prepare a variety of baked goods like bread, cakes, meat pies, chin chin, puff puff, doughnuts, cupcakes, and cookies.
- Use traditional and modern recipes.
- Ensure quality, taste, and consistency.
Cake Decoration:
- Design and decorate cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and traditional ceremonies.
- Stay updated on trends like fondant, buttercream, themed cakes, and sugarcraft.
Recipe Development and Customisation:
- Create and modify recipes based on customer preferences or dietary needs (e.g. eggless, gluten-free).
- Incorporate Nigerian flavours like zobo, coconut, plantain, or suya spice into baked items.
Order Management:
- Take and process customer orders accurately.
- Ensure timely delivery or pickup, especially for events like weddings or owambe parties.
Food Safety and Hygiene:
- Follow proper hygiene and food handling practices.
- Keep baking equipment, surfaces, and storage areas clean and sanitary.
Inventory and Cost Control:
- Source and manage ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and flavourings.
- Monitor stock levels and avoid waste.
- Set pricing that covers cost and ensures profit.
Customer Service:
- Communicate politely and clearly with clients.
- Offer recommendations and handle complaints professionally.
- Build a loyal customer base through excellent service.
Requirements:
- 1-3 years of proven experience as a Baker, Pastry Chef, or in a similar role.
- Hands-on experience with baking tools, equipment, and modern baking techniques.
- Strong knowledge of bread making, pastry creation, and cake baking/decorating.
- Ability to measure and mix ingredients accurately and consistently.
- Familiarity with the use and maintenance of ovens, mixers, and other bakery equipment.
- Understanding of dough fermentation, proofing, and temperature control.
- Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and creativity.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Work Conditions:
- Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy bags of flour or trays.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and hot kitchen environment.
