Job Summary
We are looking for a Primary School Phonetics Teacher who is responsible for teaching phonetics and phonics skills to pupils. The role of the phonetics teacher is essential in helping pupils/students develop foundational reading and writing skills by understanding the sounds of letters and their combinations.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver comprehensive and structured phonetics lessons, covering various aspects of articulation, phonetic symbols, transcription systems (e.g., IPA - International Phonetic Alphabet), and the phonological structure of languages.
- Speech Sound Analysis: Teach students how to analyze and identify different speech sounds, including consonants, vowels, and their various allophonic variations, to enhance their pronunciation accuracy and communication skills.
- Phonetic Transcription: Train students in the use of phonetic symbols and transcription techniques to represent spoken language sounds accurately.
- Accent Reduction: Work with non-native speakers to help them reduce their accents and develop more native-like pronunciation and intonation patterns.
- Language Variation: Introduce students to the concept of language variation and regional accents, helping them understand and appreciate diverse linguistic phenomena.
- Individualized Instruction: Assess students' phonetic abilities and provide personalized feedback and guidance to address their specific pronunciation challenges.
- Classroom Resources: Develop or recommend appropriate teaching materials, multimedia resources, and language lab activities to support phonetics instruction effectively.
- Technology Integration: Incorporate phonetics software, pronunciation apps, and speech analysis tools to enhance students' learning experience and self-assessment.
- Research and Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in phonetics research and teaching methodologies, participating in conferences or workshops to improve teaching practices.
- Assess students' progress through quizzes, exams, phonetic transcription assignments, and other assessment methods, providing meaningful feedback and grades.
- Support for Language Instructors: Collaborate with language teachers and instructors to integrate phonetics instruction into language courses and support learners' overall language development.
- Offer additional support to students who struggle with phonetics, addressing their concerns, and providing extra practice opportunities.
- Undertake other duties as may be required by the Head Teacher which are commensurate with the job.
- To supervise and teach any pupils whose teacher is absent and for whom alternative cover has not been obtained as directed by the Deputy Principal
- To work with and give appropriate guidance to students, volunteers, etc, and to contribute to the writing of progress reports etc on them.
- To carry out duties as described within the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
- To attend Direct hours whole school and departmental teacher meetings as required
- Contribute to whole school events as and when required
- Promote and maintain the standards of the school’s commitment to safeguarding children
- Be aware of the school’s duty of care about staff, pupils/students, and visitors and at all times carry our duties with due regard to the school’s health and safety policy

Requirements:
- Minimum of NCE or Diploma in English language or any related course.
- Willingness to work in any teaching role as seen fit by the Head Teacher.
