Job Summary

The Human Resources Manager will provide Human Resource support, oversight, and guidance to the country office and project team. This position will assist with the implementation of new HR initiatives in the country, ensure HR management guidelines and controls issued from HQ are followed and help ensure country offices are managing HR in compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as applicable labor laws and regulations. The Human Resource Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding human resources activities in the country. He will provide legally compliant HR guidance, support, and oversight to Corus program in Nigeria. The Candidate will manage and administer policies concerning recruitment, salary administration, training, employee relations, and benefits. The candidate will ensure that program policies and practices comply with applicable laws and regulations. The candidate will work closely with the Finance and Administration Director and report to the Chief of the Party.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with country office and project teams and act as a responsible, informed, and approachable member of the teams.
  • Organize the recruitment of new project employees, publish a job offer with the instructions of the candidate according to the guidelines, organize the interview team and the tests, contact the candidates, organize interviews, and ensure that all the documentation is obtained and archived for the recruitment file.
  • Manage the orientation process for new employees to ensure all hiring documents are completed and processed and that all new staff is well informed of the country office's policies, procedures, and working methods.
  • Follow the evolution of labor legislation in Nigeria and inform the regional office to ensure the appropriate measures are taken in time.
  • Act as an advocate for Corus policies and ensure compliance with the employee handbook and other HR-related management documents issued by HQ.
  • Perform periodic compliance audits in the HR field, and prepare mission reports with recommendations to be implemented.
  • Coordinate and prepare monthly payroll ensuring that personnel changes (new hires, layoffs, etc.) are correctly reflected on the pay slip and that documentation of changes is complete and filed in the personnel file.
  • Manage employee benefits and oversee the administration of benefits ensuring compliance with Corus policies and including insurance coverage.


Requirements:

  • Minimum academic qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Human resources Management, Economics, Law, or any other related social discipline.
  • 5 - 7 years of related and specialized experience with international NGOs or international organizations.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge and experience in labor law in Nigeria.
  • Good interpersonal skills, being able to be both team leader and member of a team and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the country
  • Commitment to the values of Corus and being able to model these values in dealings with colleagues and partners: accompaniment, gratitude, vocation, stewardship, and innovation. Understanding and commitment to development and agriculture in Nigeria.
  • Good analytical and communication skills, the ability to absorb and process information intended for a wide audience; the ability to work with diverse groups of people in a multicultural, team-oriented environment.
  • Autonomous and ability to identify challenges and take initiatives, prioritize, organize and perform multiple tasks under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and logically; synthesize; easily understand problems and ways to solve them; and translate ideas into action with a strong result orientation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English is essential. Knowledge of French is highly desirable.
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet browsers.
  • Knowledge of the management of human resources management software would be essential.
