Job Description/Requirements

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Support the Divisional financial manager with a wide array of functions including financial planning and analysis, treasury management, forecasting, annual budget development and monitoring, cost allocation, audit support and the implementation of financial and compliance controls
  • Gather and analyze financial information to evaluate company performance
  • Manage all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable
  • Prepare and report on financial results and internal audit results, explain discrepancies and present planned corrective action
  • Continuously Investigate and analyze financial results to spot potential problem areas in branches
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare general ledger reconciliations including bank reconciliations
  • Participate in yearly interviews/discussions with external auditors with respect to the accuracy of management books
  • Assist the divisional financial manager with maintaining, improving and monitoring branch administration procedures
  • Prepare viability studies for new stores and refurbishments
  • Communicate sales targets and expenses budgets to branch management in order to get their commitment for the year ahead 
  • Monitor /check expenses continuously in order to spot trends that are negatively influencing profitability
  • Monitor branch financial stocktaking activities; Investigate stock take reconciliations and associated problems
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies
  • Implement financial and compliance controls
  • Monitor cash flow as well as cash forecasts
  • Manage monthly returns – VAT etc.

  • All functions within the organization

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or any related discipline. 
  • A postgraduate degree is not mandatory, but an MBA is an added advantage
  • Technical accounting qualifications such as ICAN, ACCA, CIMA or any similarly recognized professional accounting qualification
  • SAP knowledge is an added advantage
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Excel
  • 8+ years of accounting experience preferably within a retail or FMCG environment 

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Leadership – An effective business partner able to give advice and counsel
  • Proficiency in using accounting software, preparing/interpreting financial statements and other reports
  • Self-motivated and passionate about excellence in achieving key accountabilities
  • Ability to lead and supervise the implementation of accounting procedures/controls
  • Previous experience of working in a fast-paced, dynamic organization with a track record of generating results 
  • Experience managing projects that involve internal and external stakeholders 
  • Outstanding attention to details, understanding of technology and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
  • Passionate about excellence in writing and verbal communication
  • An understanding of Shoprite's business and the retail industry
  • Effective time management 
  • Reliable and trustworthy
