Development of Sustainability Criteria for ITMO related project

JOB DESCRIPTIONProject:Nigeria Climate Change Response Programme The Nigerian Government has received a grant from the European Union to implement the Nigeria Climate Change Response Programme (NCCRP). This five-year (2019-2024) Technical Assistance support programme aims to guarantee the country’s economic growth and development strategies while meeting its Paris Agreement (2017) pledge of conditionally reducing its Greenhouse Gas emissions by 45% by 2030.The NCCRP (Technical Team of Experts) is aimed at supporting the Nigerian government to build a basic framework for ITMOs operations. In order to reach this objective, NCRRP is recruiting several experts to assist it in carrying out the Task.Carbon projects are expected to contribute towards sustainable development goals for Nigeria. For that to happen, there ought to be a sustainable development (SD) criteria framework upon which carbon projects will be judged.The main objective of this consultancy is to develop the SD criteria for Nigeria carbon markets under Paris Agreement Article 6. The specific objective of the mission is to define the criteria that are considered to be critical for the sustainability of projects, since there is no universally accepted definition of sustainable development. Therefore, the aim is to develop indicators thatwill provide a clear evaluation grid to qualify if a project can be eligiblefor ITMO investment. The criteria will be developed based on the Nigeriainvestment context, the business sectors that contribute to mitigate climatechange and the carbon market administrative and regulatory framework. QUALIFICATION -Education & Training: Minimum of B.Sc, or equivalent, Environmental Engineering, or other fields that are related to climate change with a focus on mitigation. MSc in any of these fields is a strong advantage. -General Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in climate change mitigation and implementing/negotiating carbon projects including CDM. -Specific Experience: -Specific experience in climate negotiations including Article 6 (Paris Agreement) is an asset; -Specific Experience in Developing SD criteria is an asset.- Verifiable previous experience in related tasks is an asset;
