Job Summary

The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) of the TRACE Project will serve as the senior field-level manager and representative with primary responsibility for coordinating, planning, and implementing technical activities to achieve program targets. S/he will have oversight of overall leadership on the technical interventions of the Activity as it relates to all the goals, objectives, components, and interventions to meet the performance indicator targets. S/he will serve as Acting COP in the absence of the COP to advance the Activity’s vision. S/he will ensure that all activities comply with USG rules and regulations as well as LWR policies and procedures. S/he will take a leadership role in ensuring technical implementation has the highest impact possible and benefits the targeted population. S/he will supervise the Agricultural Extension Officers in the Akure and Ekiti Zones in collaboration with the Program Officer. The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) position will report to the project Chief of Party and serve as COP in the absence of the COP.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all day-to-day TRACE operations and provide leadership on technical inputs for all project objectives.
  • Oversee three regional offices each with a Finance Manager, Regional Coordinator, Project and Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, and Driver. 
  • Manage the Project Communications Specialist.
  • Assume direct responsibility for the management of human, material, and financial resources as well as take a lead role in strategic planning for the program.
  • Support the COP in all aspects of program management including ensuring integration and coordination across consortium teams and establishing a “one team” approach to implementation. 
  • Develop and manage relationships with the public and private sectors.
  • Oversee communication strategies for the program in compliance with donor’s branding and marketing requirements, as well as LWRs internal procedures
  • In the absence of the COP, the DCOP will assume responsibility for the overall program.


Requirements:

  • Minimum academic qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in agronomy, agribusiness, international development, or a similar field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7 years or more of progressively responsible work experience in operational support, management, and finance/budget oversight of US Government funded development programs.
  • Deep commitment to LWRs core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Expertise in the Nigeria cocoa value chain.
  • Expertise in the marketing of agricultural products.
  • Experience with ICT4D.
  • Experience developing and managing agricultural value chain strengthening programs in West Africa, experience working with farmer cooperatives preferred.
  • Familiarity with USAID/USDA rules and regulations, compliance, and procurement procedures. 
  • Project management work experience including direct supervision of professional and support staff; and working in a multicultural environment.  
  • Familiarity with, and commitment to, gender integration in programming.
  • Fluency in English is required. 
  • The ability to travel within Nigeria is required.
