Job Description/Requirements

  • Drive increase in Shareholder return by ensuring that business processes are aligned to achieve all elements on the business scorecard. (E.g. Grow Market Share, Grow ICT & Data Revenue, Increase EBITDA margins, Assure Revenue, CAPEX Returns Management, and Net Subscriber Additions).
  • Champion/Sponsor the review of Business Processes (headcount, process optimization, business optimization, etc.), to drive efficiency gains to ensure at least a 5% reduction in MTNN’s budget year-on-year.
  • Champion Contract negotiations to reduce cost and drive MTNN Value Creation Philosophy.
  • Review MTNN corporate strategy and resource requirements to operate effectively and meet business targets.
  • Oversee P&L for the Digital function
  • Regularly monitor and review resources to ensure that resources are allocated and utilized in a cost-effective and financially disciplined manner and in line with budget provisions.
  • Oversee the development of new commercial models that may result in improvements and/or new opportunities for MTN.
  • Lead the digital operation management team to ensure accurate revenue capture through the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the channel and customer experience strategy by means of providing direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans, and roadmaps.
  • Take the lead and drive the Cultural Operating System and Vital Behaviours required to improve business performance.
  • Improve MTNN’s Net Promoters Score - Drive planned strategy for the successful delivery of MTN Group and MTNN transformation initiatives focusing on Customer centricity, including Perfect 10 Project.
  • Drive differentiation through better customer experiences and digital channel transformation to create new routes to market and ensure that services/products are easily accessible to customers.
  • Identify and advise executive management on new opportunities by providing products and services based on technology evolution and consumer-centric digital products.
  • Leverage the network of partners and develop new systems, products, and services for multiple market segments, across the entire spectrum of customers addressed by MTNN.
  • Drive strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and digital start-ups.
  • Establish and maintain an effective corporate relationship with key stakeholders and decision-makers in Nigeria.
  • Deliberate ecosystem management through effective stakeholder management for value creation and corporate positioning.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment and adequate understanding of channel strategies amongst the various channels.
  • Leverage network of partners and develop new systems, products, and services for multiple market segments, across the entire spectrum of customers addressed by MTNN to enhance MTN’s Corporate Brand.
  • Facilitate the development of an independent network of international product developers and build strategic alliance partners to ensure the competitiveness of MTNN and accomplish its strategic intent.
  • Oversee partnerships and alliances for Digital. Lead all-new partnership and business development initiatives to obtain desired products and services.
  • Responsible to engage with the Group Chief Digital officer for alignment to the Group Digital roadmap.
  • Manage critical 3rd party relationships, manage vendor relationships and shareholders within digital partnerships.
  • Strategic Input
  • Lead the development of the commercial strategy for Digital in line with the overarching business goals - ensure effective implementation of the strategy by means of providing direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans, and roadmaps.
  • Oversee regular review of the functional strategy and roadmap to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem.
  • Responsible for the setting up and monetization of the digital area and providing the strategic direction.
  • Accountable for establishing the short, medium, and long-term road map for execution in collaboration and alignment with the business strategy.
  • Develop and implement solutions with IT partners according to business strategy and international best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of the MTNN long-term business strategy to position MTN as a leading digital services provider.
  • Proffer recommendations on relevant metrics and measures to routinely monitor progress against targets and take appropriate managerial action to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Identify business risks, critical issues and determine appropriate risk mitigation plans covering a short- to the long-term timeline.
  • Digital Services
  • Oversee end-to-end distribution strategies to ensure the presence of all MTN digital products.
  • Define a holistic lifestyle services, e-commerce, media & entertainment strategy.
  • Provide guidance on local products and services to launch and achieve targets.
  • Ensure that the digital services proposition is continually enhanced through the development of new functionality and services.
  • Lead on the development of new online and mobile business models and opportunities to increase the channel's revenue streams.
  • Review technologies and explore new developments in the digital services landscape and set benchmarks for services.
  • Deliver industry best practices in order to optimize services and grow the business.
  • Oversight of the structured approach to the implementation and operation of digital products and services.

Commercial Management:

  • Oversee the rollout of the Go-to-Market strategy and ensure continuous alignment to the overall business plan.
  • Liaise with technology suppliers and manufacturers to assess the technology changes that are in the pipeline.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, governance to contracts, and buying rights across the various channels.
  • Drive market research to gather market insights in order to identify new product development opportunities and enhancements.
  • Monitor the local and international environment to identify new digital and related products and services which could be considered within the business.
  • Responsible for managing all communications to drive leads and ensure thorough gap analysis, appropriate support to correct performance within cost-effective targets
  • Provide guidance towards the tariff cost in alignment with legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop a framework to understand competition(s) and provide marketing solutions to react to a competitive threat.
  • Continuously seek self-professional development to sharpen skills and capabilities in a versatile and evolving digital landscape.
  • Drive the implementation of MTNN’s internal stakeholder management strategy.
  • Identify, evaluate and track the development needs and performance of staff, providing opportunities for staff to build on the company’s investment in their training and improve productivity.
  • Coach and mentor the team to ensure understanding of the objectives and goals of the division, awareness of all related job requirements and accountabilities, and leverage human resources through the deployment of robust people management practices.
  • Promote a sustainable organizational culture that enhances employee productivity and oversee the management of the year-on-year performance of all dimensions of the Group Culture Audit.
  • Encourage knowledge transfer through the implementation of a knowledge transfer plan and drive continuous improvement philosophy through the knowledge transfer plan

Education:

  • First degree in any relevant discipline (A degree in a technical field is an added advantage   
  • MBA/Master's qualification in a related field.
  • Fluent in English

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years experience including:
  • 5 - 8 years in a strategic digital role within a large organisation.
  • 3 years relevant digital products development experience (Understanding of the telecom industry is an advantage)
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding of emerging markets
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies and with a large team.
  • Proven track record of  a start-up, shut-down and/or business improvement/digital project
  • Deep understanding of the digital ecosystem, players, business models and industry related best practices with experience working in a digital environment.
  • Track record of developing a communication strategy, building relationships across teams and key stakeholders to achieve goals.
  • Experience in planning and forecasting leading practices and trends.
