A. Responsibilities

The accounting professional is responsible for

▪ Ensuring that financial administration functions well in accordance with GIZ standard procedures

▪ Accounting for GIZ-assisted projects

The accounting professional performs the following tasks:

B. Tasks

1. Internal control

The accounting professional

▪ Checks the vouchers and receipts submitted by the projects/programmes for completeness and allocation to cost units and categories, and corrects these where necessary

▪ Advises on respected area of projects

▪ Prepare error sheets on findings made during project accounting and informs the programs according

▪ Prepare once in a year checklist a to summarise all findings as recorded on the error sheets.

2. General services for GIZ-assisted programs

The accounting professional

▪ Carry out accounting tasks using WINPACCS GIZ internal accounting software and prepares monthly end-of-period accounts and bank reconciliation statements.

▪ Submits the end-of-month accounts from the project accounting, cash books and account balance vouchers (through or from WINPACCS) to the officer responsible for the contract and cooperation and forwards them to GIZ Head Office.

▪ Render professional advice to Programs on issues relating to GIZ project accounting.

▪ Provides support to programs on GIZ onsite asset software

▪ Assists with monitoring of receivables

▪ Provide answers to requests from Programs/Office/Superior

3. Other duties/additional tasks

The accounting professional

▪ Reports all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay

▪ Maintains filing system in accounting unit in accordance with giz rules

▪ Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the superior

Required qualifications, competences and experience:

Qualifications

▪ BSC in accounting

Professional experience

▪ At least 5 years professional experience in a comparable position

Other knowledge, additional competences

▪ In-depth knowledge of an accounting software, I,e Sage, SAP

▪ Good working knowledge of IT technologies (related software, phone, email, internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)

▪ Confidential handling of data and information

▪ Very good knowledge of Spoken / written English language, ideally a knowledge of German will be an added advantage

▪ Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
