Business Systems Analysis is the process of studying a procedure or business operation to identify its goals and purposes and create systems and procedures that will achieve them in the most efficient way. It is one of the most critical phases of the software development process and a key reason why systems fail. In Nigeria, it is often overlooked resulting in software systems being built that do not work as the client requires.
The course will also touch upon other more generic areas of expertise that are crucial to the Business Analyst; attention will be paid to Other Underlying Competencies, covering areas such as creative thinking, critical reasoning, technical writing and facilitation, which are key the effectiveness of a successful Business Analyst. Particular attention will also be paid to Techniques which will concentrate on the most common techniques that Business Analysts use in the course of their activities, including (but not limited to) concepts such as Data Flow Diagrams, SWOT Analysis, Prototyping, Requirements Workshops, Use Cases and Sequence Diagrams.
