Job Description

Teaching

  • Implement academic policies and the subject curriculum to ensure pupils receive the highest standards of education
  • Ensure high knowledge of curriculum content 
  • Create weekly lesson plans in line with curriculum
  • Prepare learning materials
  • Teach pupils a particular subject using a variety of lesson delivery methods 
  • Give regular class work and homework to assess how learning objectives are being met 
  • Ensure pupils’ classwork and homework is marked 
  • Continuously track and record individual pupils’ performance and progress 
  • Ensure pupils receive regular feedback on improvement areas and progress 
  • Promote personal and social development of class pupils and foster positive attitudes among them 
  • Be aware of and make provision for students who are AEN (Additional Educational Needs) /SEN (Special Education Needs), very able, LAC (Looked After Children) or who have particular individual development needs 
  • Take responsibility for the effective, efficient and safe use of learning resources and equipment
  • Take responsibility for own professional development 
  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history, 
  • Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting 
  • Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art 
  • Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities 
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment 
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection 
  •  Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports 
  • Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records 
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community 
  • Plan relevant excursions outside the school 
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities 
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress 
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art club 
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration

Reporting

  • Prepare weekly lesson plans and submit on time
  • Prepare weekly progress reports on academic activities and send to Key Stage Leader

Daily Responsibilities

  • Check to ensure that learning materials are ready for the day
  • Follow timetable and teach pupils related subjects
  • Ensure homework for the day (if any) is given to all class pupils 
  • Ensure all class notes and previous day’s homework is marked 
  • Ensure learning materials, classwork and homework for the following day is ready

Weekly Responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly lesson planners and submit to the Lead Teacher, Non- Core Subjects

Monthly Responsibilities 

  • Review and discuss planned activities for the month (exhibitions or other forms of events)

Job Requirement:

  • Minimum Bachelors’ Degree in Fine Arts  (or closely related subject)
  • Minimum 2 -6 years’ experience teaching the relevant subject in a Primary School setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the subject curriculum
  • A high level of self-motivation and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to uphold and model the school values
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with children and adults 
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Evidence of personal commitment to professional development
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Excellence in service delivery, focus on quality and attention to detail
  • The ability to plan school plays is an added advantage
