Job Description

  • Ensuring your students achieve learning outcomes that are above average in the subject of Mathematics by instructing students in a clear, concise and fun way, and regularly preparing lesson plans that are engaging and incorporate the curriculum.
  • Planning, developing and executing lessons that reflect the curriculum and the school’s core educational standards.
  • Developing a stimulating learning environment by using a variety of styles and approaches to cater for individual learning needs
  • Adapting mathematics curriculum for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
  • Evaluating student progress and the ability to meet courses standards in mathematical knowledge and skills.
  • Employing a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing students, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures.
  • Promote excellence in teaching and learning to ensure all students improve and develop their potential and are equipped for life beyond school, by obtaining high examination results.
  • Ensure that schemes of work are followed to enable the maintenance and development of high standards of teaching and learning with regard to different abilities.
  • Monitor students’ work to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school by supporting and leading curricular and extra-curricular events such as school productions, Math Club, activity days.
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area and education in general.
  • To ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the schemes of work and school policies, whilst taking into account the differing learning abilities of students and differentiate work accordingly.
  • To encourage all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
  • To set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the published timetable, and ensure that it is regularly marked with constructive feedback.
  • To work with colleagues in the Math Department to formulate plans which have coherence and relevance to the needs of the individual students and to the aims and objectives of the school.
  •  The Math teacher regularly uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to develop and revise objectives and/or tasks and maintains accurate records to document student performance.
  • Interacting within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students in a fair, firm, friendly and equitable manner and interacts effectively with students, co-workers/faculty and school community.
  • As a school focused on continuous improvement, you must work with the Principal to set your goals and targets at the beginning of each academic year and also work with the Head of section to monitor attainment of your goals and targets twice a year.
  • The Math teacher maintains effective classroom control and management by frequently monitoring the behavior of all students during whole-class, small group, and seat work activities and during transitions between instructional activities; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently, yet maintains the dignity of the student.
  • Performing Non-Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as need is perceived. Performs other related work as required.
