Role of the Head Business Development and Operations
The HBDO is responsible, on behalf of the President/CEO, in delivering change. The role requires strategic planning and effective co-ordination of the Award’s projects, at both national and continental levels, establishing self-sustainability of the Awards institution.
It also includes the co-ordination of the new capabilities for the Awards Institution to achieve the project’s objectives.
The HBDO will work full-time. The role is crucial for creating and maintaining focus, enthusiasm and momentum for the Institution.
The HBDO is responsible for the overall integrity and coherence of the Awards. He/She will develop and maintain the Awards process and integrity to support each individual component within it, through an effective Secretariat.
The Awards Director is responsible for:
planning, designing and implementing the Awards yearly Strategic Plan and proactively monitoring its progress.
Managing transition from national to continental levels.
ensuring effective quality assurance and the overall integrity of the project - focusing inwardly on the internal consistency of the project, and outwardly with effective interface with other corporate stakeholders.
Delivering on self sustainability of the Awards institution through local and international fund generation, including from sponsorships, grants and autonomous sources.
managing the project budget, monitoring expenditure and costs against delivered and realized benefits.
ensuring the delivery of new products or services from projects is to the appropriate level of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the project plan and project governance structure
reporting the progress of the project at regular intervals to the President/CEO and through him to the Board.
coordinate the activities of the secretariat personnel
Qualification and Competencies
The HBDO should have:
A minimum of M.Sc in Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or any of the Social Sciences. Professional Qualification will be an advantage.
Must be highly computer savvy, competent with various software packages.
A minimum of 5-7 years in a similar role, particularly with an Awards institution.
Knack for positive change, exposure and affinity for research on global developmental subjects and implementation.
Possess effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
Have ability to command respect and to create a sense of community amongst the members of the project teams
Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects
Sound business case development and presentation skills
Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
Sufficient seniority and credibility credentials to coordinate and effectively supervise project teams
