Job Summary

The Global Programme Migration for Development (PMD) – Module 1, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), supports migrants, who are willing to contribute to the overall development of their countries of origin. It is run under the umbrella of the Center for International Migration and Development, which is jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the International Placement Services (ZAV) of the German Federal Employment Agency (BA). The overarching objective of the programme is to strengthen the development-relevant contributions of migrants in their countries of origin and improve the framework conditions for regular migration in selected partner countries. This objective is actively being pursued within five fields of activity such as support for returning experts who have studied or worked in Germany and who wish to put their knowledge to good use by working in their countries of origin; cooperation with the diaspora; support for migrants who wish to start their own business in their country of origin; advice on job and training opportunities in migrants’ countries of origin and on options for regular migration to Germany and migration policy advice.

Job Description

As a service provider in the field of international cooperation for  sustainable development and international education work, we are dedicated to shaping a future worth living around the world. GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment promotion, energy and the environment, and peace and security. The diverse expertise of our federal enterprise is in demand around the globe – from the German Government, European Union institutions, the United Nations, the private sector and governments of other countries. We work with  businesses, civil society actors and research institutions, fostering successful interaction between development policy and other policy 
fields and areas of activity. Our main commissioning party is the  German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The registered offices of GIZ are in Bonn and Eschborn. Our 19,506 employees, almost 70 per cent of whom are  national personnel, work in around 120 countries (December 2017). 
GIZ has worked in Nigeria since 1974. From 2004, GIZ has  maintained a country office in the capital city Abuja. Currently 280  national and 51 international employees and 4 integrated specialists 
are working in the country (as of 31.12.2018).

The work of the 2nd Coordinator in Nigeria should be focused on the
area of action – Business Ideas for Development (GfE).
The 2nd Coordinator
Works closely with the senior coordinator, who represents the  Programme Migration for Development at country level; 
Coordinates all programme activities in the context of  Business Ideas for Development (GfE) in the partner country in close consultation with the senior coordinator, the project manager and other staff members of the Programme Migration for Development at GIZ Head Office; Carries out marketing activities in the partner country in the  context of Business Ideas for Development (GfE) in  consultation with the senior Coordinator and officers responsible for marketing and public relations activities for the 
Programme Migration for Development at GIZ Head Office;  Supports the senior Coordinator in the implementation of the Programme Migration for Development if necessary and 
replaces him during absence  Business Ideas for Development  Supports in the acquisition of applicants for participation in the  annual call for proposals for Business Ideas for Development 
(GfE) and/or MEETAfrica;
Supports at GfE and/or MEETAfrica events in Europe and  other places through provision of information on the local 
economic situation and opportunities for entrepreneurs from  the diaspora; Supports, in coordination with other stakeholders, the evaluation and selection of business ideas of  Nigerian candidates; 
Participates as a jury member at the "pitch event", as well as a  coordinator at "kick-off and "midterm events;" 
Identifies resource persons, especially successful founders, for  best practice contributions; 
Compiles articles and provides information on the topic of  business start-up for the PMD website,; Creates and updates the mapping of key stakeholders in the  area of business start-up, develops and maintains the network among relevant strategic stakeholders, and tracks the further 
development of the entrepreneurship ecosystem of the country  of origin;  Continuously develops - in coordination with other participants of GfE and / or MEETAfrica - the on-site service offer, including  the implementation of specific events on-site, develops ideas for South-South activities with stakeholders and/or founders:  Builds a network to relevant stakeholders and entrepreneurs; 
Advises accompanies and builds networks amongst GfE  founders as a facilitator in the process of business start-up and in the post-funding phase. 
Other duties/additional tasks
performs other duties and tasks at the request of the PMD
Module 1 Programme Manager.
Required qualifications, competences and experience:
Required Competencies
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics,
Marketing, Public Administration or any other related field
from a German University.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in
comparable position.
Professional experience in Germany.
Other knowledge, additional competences
Stay in Germany for an extended period of time.
University degree in Germany.
Excellent command of both oral and written German and
Preferably professional experience in the context of Private
Sector Development and Migration and Development
Advanced computer skills
High level of communicative skills
Ideally has gained some working experience and basic
knowledge of German development cooperation
