In addition, CIM, a joint operation of GIZ and the Federal Employment Agency, placed almost 1,000 integrated and returning experts with local employers abroad in 2015 while providing them with financial support and advisory services.*

Programme The Nigerian Energy Support Programme II (NESP II) is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented jointly by Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It aims at enabling and fostering investments in a domestic market for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and improve access to electricity in Nigeria.

 

The programme coordinates a development partnership with the private sector jointly with Schneider Electric Nigeria Ltd. The partnership is targeted at improving technical skills on Renewable Energy for Young Nigerians.

 

Furthermore, embedded experts will be deployed as part of the programme with German financing, eg as development advisors to improve capacities of public partners or as Integrated Experts via the Centre for international Migration and Development (CIM) to improve organizational development with public or private partners.

 

Additionally, the programme will build up on the dedicated training delivery approach of the first implementation period: Training partners that have been initially supported in delivery of up to 7 state-of-the-art training approaches on various RE/EE topics will be strengthened further to ensure market uptake.

Responsibilities & tasks:

As the Advisor on Partnerships with the Private Sector/ Instrument mix/ Capacity Development, you will be part of the management team supporting the Head of Programme. Your job will be to acquisition new/ manage existing partnerships with the private sector; support the coordination of embedded experts and roll out implementation with regards to training activities. The position requires close coordination with GIZ Headquarters, Country Office and all NESP units. 

 

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the tasks you will be expected to carry out:

Tasks

Serve as NESP interface for all private sector related partnerships; active relationship management

Coordinate the management of the development partnership with Schneider Electric Nigeria Ltd including implementation of activities, monitoring and reporting on behalf of GIZ NESP

Support the acquisition of additional development partnerships with the private sector where feasible

Steer the selection of feasible partner institutions for the embedding of Integrated Experts/ Development Advisors

Coordinate Integrated Experts/ Development Advisors with regards to administration/ logistics

Steer activities with regards to supporting the training network of NESP I in further capacity development/ training delivery

Support M&E activities of NESP in general 

 

General obligations

The advisor: is familiar with all components of the programme, concepts and status of implementation and knows the corresponding experts and staff;

represents the interest of the GIZ and the programme and always acts on its behalf; and carries out important tasks for the programme, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description; performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management.

 

Required qualifications, competencies and experience:

A university degree in the field of Energy, International Relations, Political Science or comparable

At least 2 years of relevant work experience

Prior work experience with GIZ/ knowledge on GIZ delivery and instruments  is an advantage Knowledge of the institutional set-up, as well as the framework of the Nigerian energy sector, is an asset

Excellent communication skills

Strong networking skills and ability to work in complex settings with Government, non-government and private actors

Other knowledge, additional competencies

Very good knowledge of English (speaking, writing) is required

Fluent written and oral knowledge of English.

Advanced knowledge on MS Office. 

Very good monitoring and reporting skills

Ability and willingness to travel regularly to any region in Nigeria (including rural areas)
