The Manager, HSE will design, develop, implement and maintain a corporate Health, Safety and Environmental management system specific to the operations of the organization.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensuring safety drills are carried out in accordance with International/National Rules & Regulations, Company requirements and the Shipping Industries standards and guidelines and analyzing performance reports.
  • Monitoring vessels’ Inspection/Maintenance for Bridge, Safety and Deck Departments.
  • Issuing and updating letters and instructions regarding operations, safety, port information and other similar matters.
  • Co-operating with contracted Chart and Publication Suppliers to ensure vessels have updated charts and publications and that they receive regular Notices to Mariners.
  • Reporting any identified non-conformances, accidents, near misses and emergency situations to the Designated Person Ashore (DPA).
  • Assisting with investigations into the cause and putting forward suggested corrective and preventive action
  • Attending Shoreside Management Review Meetings as at when required.
  • Carrying out his designated duties for the Shoreside Emergency Response Team.
  • Assessing Masters in co-operation with the Operations Manager and other heads of departments.
  • Arranging for supplementary training for Shipboard Personnel.

  • 5 to 7 years’ work experience inHealth, Safety and Environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher national diploma in Engineering, occupational health, environmental science and safety. 
  • A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • International General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH) is mandatory.


Work environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. 


Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus 


Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of all employees in the safety department.
