Bosun will perform duties that pertain to the general maintenance, repair, sanitation, and upkeep of the material, equipment, and areas of Deck Department responsibility.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Following International/National Rules & Regulations, relevant Shipping Industry Standards and Guidelines and Company Policies and Procedures at all times
  • Carrying out assigned duties in a safe and responsible manner
  • Assisting the Officer on Watch when assigned to Watch-keeping duties at sea or in port.
  • Steering the vessel as and when required
  • Performing any tasks for which they hold special skills or experience
  • Reporting Accidents, Near Misses and Non-Conformances to a Senior Officer and assisting with investigations into the cause
  • Suggesting changes to improve the Safety Management System
  • Attending Safety Committee Meetings as and when required.
  • Ensuring documentation associated with his areas of responsibility are maintained in accordance with Company procedures.   



  • Needed skills in all operations connected with the launching of lifesaving equipment and ability to operate deck machinery.        
  • Has wide knowledge in the use of knots, hitches, bends, whipping, and splices for anchoring the vessel.  



  • Minimum of One (1) year experience
  • Minimum of Secondary School Certificate Examination (S.S.C.E)
  • STCW 95 Certificates: Basic Mandatories, Certificate of Competency (C.O.C), Efficiency Deck Hand (EDH), International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS)
  • Must have a recognized Seaman’s discharge book and a valid offshore medical certificate


Physical requirements

All vessel positions can be physically demanding. Bending, climbing, repetitive motion, and heavy lifting are requirements of most vessel positions. Every crew member works varied shifts, which average 12 hours a day, every day.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervision responsibilities.
