A Jobseekers Networking Hack
A Jobseekers Networking Hack

The global pandemic has changed our world as we know it, opportunities seem scarce and resources seem limited but it won’t do you any good to sit around and mope rather than focusing on the few opportunities that present themselves. Many individuals question why they should attend a career fair. They rather focus on scouting for jobs on the internet, that works – at least, it’s from the comfort of your couch. While finding jobs through online sources is viable, there are certain advantages to attending virtual career fairs especially in times like these.

From the comfort of your couch, no mask needed, with access to hundreds of employers and other professionals just by the click of a button.

A Jobseekers Networking Hack

Career fairs aren’t only for fresh graduates or students like most people think, it’s an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to find their dream job, connect with employers and professionals, share ideas and access opportunities they never thought off.  Even if you’re much further advanced in your career, it may be time to seek out virtual career fairs to attend. Here are 3 reasons you should consider attending a virtual career fair:

  • Build Connections – Connections, connections, connections, this is everything right now. Virtual career fairs can be much more targeted than traditional career fairs, this means you don’t have to worry as much that you’ll be milling around in a crowd of unqualified applicants and fighting for the attention you are due. You get to connect with top employers and build one on one rapport, you have the opportunity to collect LinkedIn handles, phone numbers, email addresses and so on.

  • Explore Various Careers – Career paths are hardly ever paths, it’s usually more like crocked slippery exciting hills we go through to make it to the top, but not to worry, you definitely got this. We often seek to explore various career paths, especially youths; this is why you see a lot of engineers in the banks and lawyers in tech industry, life takes you places you never imagine. Why restrict yourself to textbooks and a degree, when you’re indeed capable of so much more.

Just because you studied a course, doesn’t mean you have to practice it – this is why career fairs are so vital for success across any field. Imagine having access to a bunch of industry leaders right under your fingertips – fairs will have you thinking about the different occupations within your respective industry or may help you decide on what industry you would like to enter – easy access!

  • Land that dream job/internship – It offers you a chance to present yourself to potential employers – no stress, no hassle, all from the comfort of your couch. (If that doesn’t sound like a good enough reason, then we don’t know what to tell you).

Making a good impression may land you an interview right on the spot. Even if they don’t interview you immediately, employers are likely to take your resume and get back to you at a later time. The more contacts you make, the more opportunities you will have to land a job or internship. Online job searches can lead to jobs and internships, but why limit your opportunities?
