Role:

African Business Central (“ABC”) is looking to hire a part-time Online Publishing Manager to join our experienced publishing team which creates and curates dynamic multi-media news content for our news site, a highly-influential media website. In this role, you will take ownership of the process of daily publication of high-quality articles and videos to the website in a timely fashion. In this role, which is fast-paced with quick turnaround times, you will be provided with daily content which must be rapidly converted into high-quality draft posts on our WordPress content management system. All drafts will be reviewed by our Head of Publishing prior to publication.

 

The ideal candidate will be someone who has proven experience and interest in creating dynamic, engaging and high-quality web multimedia content, with some experience in web design, web development and basic image editing. The preferred candidate will be someone with a passion for web content and its fusion with new media, including social media.

 

If you are excited by the challenge of working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, have the ability to keep your cool under deadline pressure, and do not walk away from a task until it is done, then this is the role for you.

 

This role will start off as a part-time position, with the potential for significant growth in terms of scope and compensation. You will be compensated in US dollars on a monthly basis.

 

Qualifications:

  • Highly-motivated web developer with a minimum of one year experience. Experience on the WordPress platform. Ability to read and make minor edits to HTML. Basic understanding of CSS. Ability to make minor edits to images, such as resizing while making sure to maintain aspect ratio.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and able to create content of the highest quality that is absolutely free of visual or typographical errors. Ability to write in perfect grammar and punctuation with zero spelling or semantic errors.
  • Quick learner with ability to understand and diligently adhere to specifications as expressed in process documentation.
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO), as well as social media and email marketing. Interest in learning cutting-edge technologies and techniques related to publishing and marketing web content.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Access to a PC and reliable internet connection.

 

Nice to have: Interest in and knowledge of global affairs, particularly on business, financial and economic news. Such knowledge in the context of the African continent is an added bonus.
