- The Corporate Governance program in IFC aims to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the business environment in developing countries and to help build sustainable businesses. Components of the Program include (i) working with firms (including small and medium sized enterprises) on improving their corporate governance practices; (ii) building capacity of regional intermediaries (institutes, associations, consulting firms, educational institutions, etc.) to promote corporate governance on an ongoing and sustainable basis; (iii) working with Government and regulators to improve governance standards, investor protection, and develop corporate governance regulatory frameworks; and (iv) raising the awareness of corporate governance in the business community including supporting the development of corporate governance forums and preparing and disseminating corporate governance publications.
- Corporate Governance Officer positions may be located in Washington, DC or one of IFC’s regional offices (such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Delhi, Dubai, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Dakar, Nairobi, Sao Paulo, or Mexico City).
- The Corporate Governance Officer will be responsible for the following:
- Managing program components, including work plan deliverables, project budget and schedule, status reporting, risk and issue identification/management, monitoring and evaluation and donor reporting
- Managing client relationships, including developing new business, representing the World Bank Group (WBG) with partners/clients, facilitating discussions, and preparing diagnostic and other reports on company and regulatory governance practices, as well as supporting clients and regulators with implementation of recommendations
- Supporting capacity development of regional intermediaries (institutes, associations, consulting firms, etc.) through training, workshops and other capacity building activities, as well as joint delivery of CG trainings and firm consultations
- Building relations with government and regulators to improve governance standards and investor protection, and support the development of corporate governance regulatory frameworks
- Raising awareness through events, conferences, corporate governance forums, as well as developing and supporting the preparation and dissemination of corporate governance publications
- Liaising with related WBG parties to ensure seamless and coordinated client-centric market interventions.
- Professional degree in a related field, such as corporate Law, Accounting, Finance, or Business Management
- At least 10 years of experience in an area related to corporate governance, including delivering effective corporate governance advice in the private sector, preferably with experience in developing countries
- Legal, finance or business background contributing to knowledge of corporate governance and financial management
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of best practices related to corporate governance
- Experience in developing and managing technical assistance, advisory services, or consultancy programs, or providing corporate governance-related advice to clients
- Ability to engage with various stakeholders, effective influencing skills and demonstrated diplomacy
- Strong organizational and communications skills, and ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend solutions
- Self-starter, innovator and motivated
- Willingness to travel.
